Philippine Pavilion
Trailer
The Philippines Pavilion, designed by Filipino architect Carlo Calma Consultancy, stands as a testament to how nature, culture, and community can be intricately woven together for a brighter future. At the center of this project is a celebration of the Philippines’ rich diversity, captured through the immersive guest experience design by Tellart, aiming to inspire visitors to explore the island nation and deepen their appreciation of its vibrant culture.
Commissioned by the Philippine Tourism Promotions Board and the Department of Tourism Philippines, this pavilion is more than just a showcase, it’s a personal journey. Visitors are invited to engage with interactive spaces that merge cutting-edge technology with age-old craftsmanship, presenting the Philippines in a way that is deeply respectful of its traditions while looking toward the future. Sustainable materials, AI-driven interactions, and handcrafted elements converge to tell the story of the nation’s culture, ecology, and community in an experiential manner.
The pavilion’s design weaves stories through an immersive environment filled with woven artworks crafted from local materials using traditional techniques. As visitors make their way through this forest of strings, they are met with a celebration of the natural world through dynamic performances of music and dance, bringing the space alive with vibrant colour, sound, and texture.
Adding to the visitor experience, the pavilion offers moments of joy and relaxation—an interactive photo booth, a gift shop with locally crafted goods, a café serving delicious Filipino food and refreshments, and even a space to unwind with a massage.
From the initial pitch to the first concept design phase, I played a role in shaping and visualising the spatial layout and guest experience narrative. In collaboration with Loom, a spatial design firm, we developed the interactive screen and eighteen scrims, ensuring that the pavilion adhered to World Expo guidelines on safety, space, and crowd capacity, creating a seamless flow for visitors. The result is a space that beautifully balances tradition, sustainability, and technological innovation, inviting the world to discover and fall in love with the Philippines.
